چکیده

BACKGROUND McGrath MAC video laryngoscope offers excellent laryngosopic views and increases the success rate of orotracheal intubation in some cases. The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of McGrath MAC for routine nasotracheal intubation by comparing McGrath MAC with Airway scope and Macintosh laryngoscope. METHODS A total of 60 adult patients with ASA physical status class 1 or 2, aged 20-70 years were enrolled in this study. Patients were scheduled for elective oral surgery under general anesthesia with nasotracheal intubation. Exclusion criteria included lack of consent and expected difficult airway. Patients were randomly allocated to three groups: McGrath MAC (n = 20), Airway scope (n = 20), and Macintosh laryngoscope (n = 20). After induction, nasotracheal intubation was performed by six expert anesthesiologists with more than 6 years of experience. RESULTS There were no significant differences in preoperative airway assessment among the three groups. Successful tracheal intubation time was 26.8 ± 5.7 (mean ± standard deviation) s for McGrath MAC, 36.4 ± 11.0 s for Airway scope, and 36.5 ± 8.9 s for Macintosh laryngoscope groups. The time for successful tracheal intubation for McGrath MAC group was significantly shorter than that for Airway scope and Macintosh laryngoscope (p < 0.01). McGrath MAC significantly improved the Cormack Lehane grade for nasotracheal intubation compared with Macintosh laryngoscope (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION McGrath MAC significantly facilitates routine nasotracheal intubation compared with Airwayscope and Macintosh laryngoscope by shortening the tracheal intubation time and improving the Cormack Lehane grade. TRIAL REGISTRATION UMINCTR Registration number UMIN000023506 . Registered 5 Aug 2016.

A randomised crossover trial comparing the Airtraq(®) NT, McGrath(®) MAC and Macintosh laryngoscopes for nasotracheal intubation of simulated easy and difficult airways in a manikin.

OBJECTIVE Several devices can aid nasotracheal intubation when managing difficult airways. The McGrath MAC and Airtraq NT were compared with a Macintosh laryngoscope when studying the performance of anaesthetists with different levels of experience, in a manikin model of easy or difficult airway scenarios. METHODS Sixty-three anaesthetists were recruited into a randomised trial in which each ...

Comparison of the Incidence of Sore Throat and Hemodynamic Changes in ‎Airway Management by Macintosh, Glideoscope Laryngoscope and ‎Laryngeal Mask Airway Techniques: Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Studies have shown that postoperative sore throat is the most common complication of tracheal intubation, However, the actual incidence and extent of it are not well documented. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the incidence of sore throat and hemodynamic Changes in Macintosh, Glidescope Laryngoscope and laryngeal mask airway  techniques in elective surg...

Comparison of Direct and Indirect Laryngoscopes in Vomitus and Hematemesis Settings: A Randomized Simulation Trial

BACKGROUND Videolaryngoscopes may not be useful in the presence of hematemesis or vomitus. We compared the utility of the Macintosh laryngoscope (McL), which is a direct laryngoscope, with that of the Pentax-AWS Airwayscope (AWS) and McGRATH MAC (McGRATH), which are videolaryngoscopes, in simulated hematemesis and vomitus settings. METHODS Seventeen anesthesiologists with more than 1 year of ...

Evaluation of the success rate and quality of teaching of tracheal intubation to medical students by using video laryngoscope

Background: Training of airway management and tracheal intubation skill in emergencies for resuscitation of patients are basic skills for medical students. However, the success rate of beginners in this skill is low. Video laryngoscopes are new devices that can increase the success of endotracheal intubation training. Methods: This clinical trial was conducted with 30 medical students who came...

Evaluation of intra ocular pressure and hemodynamic change following intubation with Maccoy, Macintosh and Video laryngoscope

Background & Objective: The induction of anesthesia, laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation can be associated with adverse hemodynamic response and increased intraocular pressure. The aim of this study was to evaluate intraocular pressure and hemodynamic changes after laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation with three methods of laryngoscopy (Macintosh, Maccoy and Video laryngoscope).Materia...
